How To Make Things Easier For Your Movers

If you hire movers to help you pack and load your items, this takes a lot of stress off of you. Good movers will need very little help and input from you in order to get the job done. But still, it is nice to make your movers' jobs easier whenever possible. Here are four ways to do just that!

1. Show them how to take apart difficult furniture.

Most movers will take apart large furniture in order to make it easier to carry and load in the moving truck. If you have any tables, dressers, or chests that are difficult to disassemble, make sure you are around on moving day to show the movers how to do this. Not only will you save the movers time, but you'll decrease the risk of them accidentally damaging your furniture in an attempt to take it apart. (Movers are very careful with clients' things, but accidents do happen sometimes.)

2. Provide a convenient place to park.

The closer to your home the movers are able to park, the easier time they'll have loading the moving truck. Make sure you clear your driveway out so they can park in it and access the truck without having to walk around a car or other items. If you do not have off-street parking, contact your neighbors a few days before the movers arrive and ask if they'd be willing to park a little further down the road that day so the movers can park the truck directly in front of your home.

3. Prepare the floors ahead of time.

Most moving companies will bring runners and cardboard to protect your floors if you do not provide it -- but laying it down takes them extra time. If you want to expedite the moving process, put mats down on floors and in hallways before your movers arrive. This way, they can walk in and out without having to take their shoes off or wipe them at the door.

4. Provide snacks and drinks.

Movers will typically bring their own food or take a break to eat if needed. But providing some basic snacks and drinks is still a really nice gesture! Some bottled water, soda, and granola bars will go a long way. Set them on the counter, and tell the movers to help themselves if they wish. Some will take you up on the offer.
